Man surrenders following standoff with police

Incident began just after midnight in the 9400 block of Silent Oaks

SAN ANTONIO – A standoff that began as a reported shooting ended with a man in custody, San Antonio police said Friday.

The incident began just after midnight in the 9400 block of Silent Oaks, not far from Tezel Road and Culebra Road on the city's far Northwest Side.

Police said a man in his 40s and his "soon to be ex-wife" got into a fight. That's when, police said, the man pointed a gun at her and fired it elsewhere inside the home.

The woman ran away from the scene and called police for help.

Officials said an off-duty officer who works as a neighborhood security guard was patrolling the area and quickly responded. Police appeared shortly thereafter, and the man stayed inside.

Police then attempted to make contact by banging on the door, using a loudspeaker, and calling on the phone but he did not respond. SWAT officers were eventually called in to assist.

The man surrendered to authorities shortly after 5 a.m. after someone he knew got him to respond, talking him out of the house.

The investigation is ongoing.

KSAT 12 will have more on this story as it develops.
