Prince Rogers Nelson, the innovative and unique musician who became one of the most iconic artists of his generation, has died. He was 57. His death came six days after he was reportedly rushed to a hospital in Moline, Illinois, following a concert in Atlanta. || A family was displaced from their home following a two-alarm fire overnight, fire officials said Thursday. A witness at the scene said a man first tossed a baby down to firefighters before jumping from the top unit's balcony. || Millie, a 5-year-old Labrador retriever is recovering after she was found abandoned Wednesday in a West Side dumpster, Animal Care Services said. Millie was curled up under bags of trash, pizza boxes, empty soda cans and other trash, the agency said.

WEDNESDAY

The San Antonio Police Department on Wednesday identified Steven Franco, 38 as the officer who died in an apparent suicide on Tuesday. Harriet Tubman will replace Andrew Jackson on the $20, according to U.S. Treasury officials. A Boerne mother said her son was diagnosed with a deadly disease that could have been detected by routine testing at birth. She is now hopeful that the disease will become part of the newborn screening process. Catch up on all the news you may have missed in this ICYMI recap.

TUESDAY

The owner of a West Side car dealership is charged with murder after he chased after and shot a man accused of buying a car with a fraudulent check, San Antonio police said. A 10-year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department was found dead Tuesday of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head inside his marked patrol unit, police officials said. A 29-year-old coach in the Jourdanton Independent School District was arrested last week after he tried to bring cocaine into Oyster Bake, authorities said.

MONDAY

Heavy rains slammed the Alamo City Monday. A woman whose car was carried away Monday morning by rushing rainwater on the city's Northeast Side might have two strangers to thank for her safety. She was driving along Old O'Connor Road near Weidner Road before 9 a.m. when high water covering the road apparently took her by surprise. || More than a foot of rain in some places flooded low-lying areas across the Houston region Monday, forcing officials to suspend bus and rail service, close schools and government offices and urge residents to stay home amid what authorities said were extremely dangerous conditions. || An Austin pastor claims that he received a cake order from Whole Foods that said “LOVE WINS F—.” A word many consider a derogatory term for homosexuals. The pictures of the cake went viral Monday afternoon on social media.

The Spurs came away with a huge win Sunday night in Game 1 of the West Conference quarter finals. The Silver and Black crushed the Memphis Grizzlies, 106-74. Of course the guys in the KSAT Sports department were there to provide full-court coverage from a fan slideshow, to a Facebook Live recap after the game. But the Spurs need three more win to claim round one. David Sears and RJ Marquez breakdown the first round series. #GSG

Tornadoes, flooding and severe weather, oh my!

Mother Nature is making her presence felt across South Texas. Storms on Sunday produced a tornado in La Salle County and prompted a flash-flood warning in the Hill Country. Earthquake rocks Ecuador

The catastrophic earthquake that destroyed buildings in Ecuador on Saturday became far more devastating Sunday, when the death toll soared to 246. That number is expected to climb as more bodies are found. More than 2,500 people were injured. It's the deadliest earthquake to hit the nation since March 1987, when a 7.2-magnitude temblor killed 1,000 people, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Bringing her son home

A Converse mother has not stopped trying to bring her son home for the past nine months. Patrick Clark, 21, drowned over the Fourth of July weekend in Port Aransas. Since then his mother has learned that her eldest son was buried in Corpus Christi. All the while she has been helping raise Clark’s daughter, born weeks after he died.

Falling asleep on the job

Well clearly it is not safe to sleep on the job. A FedEx Express hub worker fell asleep in the loading area of a plane and ended up on an early morning flight to Lubbock, Texas, last week. Luckily, the worker is OK, and obviously learned a good lesson.
