Metal rim fragment smashes through woman's windshield on Highway 281

Woman suffers deep cut on her head

SAN ANTONIO – A woman was cut in the head by a piece of a metal wheel rim that smashed through her windshield Friday morning.

Police said the woman was driving on Highway 281 north of Hildebrand Avenue around 7:20 a.m. when another vehicle kicked the metal fragment up into the air.

The debris went through the windshield on the driver's side and exited the Ford SUV through the rear passenger side window. (pictured below)

The 37-year-old woman suffered a cut on her head deep enough to expose her skull, police said. She was the only person in the vehicle.

She was taken to University Hospital for treatment and is expected to be OK.
