Man critically wounded in Loop 410 shooting

Fight at Valero Corner Store might have triggered shooting, police say

SAN ANTONIO – A man was shot through the back seat of a moving car early Tuesday on Loop 410 on the city's South Side, police said.

The victim was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

Three men in their 20s were riding in a black Dodge Charger west on a Loop 410 access road between Zarzamora Road and Highway 16 just before midnight when a car pulled up alongside them and someone in the car started shooting, police said. A bullet went through the trunk and back seat and into the center of the victim's back.

"Maybe there was one car that was trailing the car that the victim was in, because it sounds like the shot came from the back end of the vehicle," Sgt. Jesse Salame, a San Antonio Police Department spokesman, said.

After exiting and going north in the 8600 block of Poteet Jourdanton Highway, the driver of the victim's car accidently drove into a guardrail, police said. He turned around and saw what had happened to his brother.

The driver told police that he did not know who shot at them.

Police are investigating whether a fight at a Valero Corner Store on Zarzamora triggered the shooting.

Surveillance video from the store showed a black Dodge Charger, similar to the one in which the men were riding in, police said.
