CALAVERAS, Texas – Firefighters responded to a call of an early morning house fire in Calaveras, officials said Wednesday.
The fire was reported around 3:30 a.m. along County Road 128 near 181.
Officials at the scene said a 70-year-old woman attempted to put the fire out in the back of her home herself early Wednesday morning, before the flames got out of control.
Firefighters said the home has been damaged extensively and the woman's possessions are a total loss. Heavy debris can be seen all over the woman's yard.
Officials said power lines are also down in the area. They said they received information about lightning strikes and high winds earlier Wednesday morning.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for her injuries.
The investigation into the cause is ongoing.
