A Bexar County deputy shot in the line of duty and his wife spoke on Friday about efforts to save their son. Lincoln Donato has lived in the hospital since his birth on July 24, 2015. || The Texas Transportation Commission on Thursday approved the addition of high-occupancy vehicles lanes on U.S. Highway 281 from Loop 1604 to the Bexar/Comal County line and on Interstate 10 from La Cantera Parkway to FM 3351/Ralph Fair Road. || Plants to potties, if it's a water-saver, Texans can save some cash this weekend, too. For the first time, the Memorial weekend sales tax holiday has been expanded to include certain water-stingy product. And, if you're in the market for a new fridge or other Energy Star appliance, you get a sales tax break on those as well.

THURSDAY

Reports of a tornado touched down in Bryan Thursday afternoon. According to College Station police, the tornado hit the area of Boonville Rd. and FM 1179. || The family of a man shot and killed by an off-duty Bexar County sheriff’s deputy is critical of the investigation that followed the shooting. Deputy Anthony Thomas, who has since been fired, claimed that he shot Matthew Jackson, 29, in self-defense after the two had been involved in a minor traffic accident in the pre-dawn hours of August 31, 2013. || It's noisier and wetter than usual in the Natural Bridge Caverns. As recent rains recharged the aquifer, which normally resides a hundreds of feet below the cave system, it rose up into the caverns and completely submerged the lowest chamber.

MONDAY

A Leon Valley spa has been shut down amidst an ongoing investigation that has already had one employee arrested for prostitution. The arrest and the spa's business license application denial came on the same day. || Friends, family and fans of Tejano music legend Emilio Navaira gathered Monday at San Fernando Cathedral for the late singer's funeral. The funeral mass, which is open to the public, starts at 1 p.m., but mourners began arriving hours earlier. || UTSA geophysicist and professor Stephen Ackley spent almost 30 years working at the U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL). He is using his decades of experience studying sea ice and atmospheric conditions in Antarctica and the Arctic in his role as professor at UTSA to try to better understand how hail is formed and to better help predict severe hailstorms.

A final goodbye

Family and friends gathered Saturday to say goodbye to Roberto Gonzalez at the Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital. Alongside them was Gonzalez's horses. Bedridden, Gonzalez was wheeled outside the hospital. In the pictures, you can see two horses and Gonzalez’s family. We would like to thank Roberto Gonzalez for his service and sacrifice.

Bus crash update

A ninth person has died after a bus accident in deep South Texas last weekend. Atanacio Almendares Trejo, 83, of Weslaco died at University Hospital in San Antonio. Seven people died at the scene and another person died at the hospital hours after the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board said it will take over a year for the full investigation into the crash to be completed.

The artist formerly known as Prince

One day before his body was found, Prince was given intravenous fluids at a Minneapolis-area hospital, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, which attributed that information to an unnamed source with knowledge of the investigation. Paramedics who responded to the 911 call from Prince's estate told law enforcement officers, staff and others at the scene that Prince may have been dead for at least six hours before his body was discovered in an elevator at Paisley Park.
