Boy, 11, dies after motorbike hits brick mailbox

Name of child has yet to be released

ARLINGTON, Texas – Police say an 11-year-old boy has died after the small motorbike he was operating hit a brick mailbox in a North Texas neighborhood.

Arlington police on Wednesday did not immediately release the name of the child who died.

Officers on Tuesday night responded to a report of a motorbike accident near some homes. Police say the boy apparently lost control of the motorbike. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say other children were in the area and possibly witnessed the accident. Arlington police say a girl was taken to a hospital for treatment of an ankle injury. Police are trying to determine if she was involved in the accident. Further details on her weren't released.

Arlington is midway between Dallas and Fort Worth.
