SA man arrested after New Braunfels kidnapping, high-speed chase

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – New Braunfels Police have arrested a San Antonio man responsible for kidnapping a woman and leading authorities on a high speed chase Monday night.

Raul D. Sarabia Jr., 50, of San Antonio has been arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping along with evading arrest, driving while intoxicated, and assault causing body injury -- family violence.

According to police, Sarabia was involved in a dispute with a woman before being seen by witnesses dragging the woman into a silver sport utility vehicle. 

Police caught up with the vehicle and a chase ensued before Sarabia eventually pulled over. 

Before getting on the Interstate police said they saw the woman try to get out of the SUV several times but the man would speed up each time, preventing the woman from getting out.

The woman was checked out by emergency personnel following the event and only suffered minor injuries.

Police in New Braunfels are investigating what led a man to kidnap a woman and lead them on a high-speed chase.

According to police around 6:30 p.m. Monday they were called to the 100 block of South Liberty Street for a fight between a man, 50, and a woman, 47.

Witnesses at the scene told police they had seen the man drag the woman into a silver SUV and drive away.

Police caught up with the pair near Peace Avenue and East Mather Street.

The man did not stop and continued onto Loop 337 towards Highway 46 and Interstate 35, reaching speeds of 60 mph.

While trying to cut through a store parking lot the man hit a pole but continued to lead police on a chase.

Before getting on the Interstate police said they saw the woman try to get out of the SUV several times but the man would speed up each time, preventing the woman from getting out.

The man eventually got on to I-35 and reached speeds of 100 mph before he stopped the vehicle in the 1400 block of Huisache.

The man was arrested. The woman was checked out by emergency personnel and only suffered minor injuries.

The man has been booked into the Comal County Jail and charged with kidnapping, evading arrest in a vehicle assault, driving while intoxicated and duty upon striking a fixed object.

New Braunfels police said the identity of the man will be released once he has been magistrated.
