Kids, 12 and 7, start police chase after taking grandmother's car for joyride

CONROE, Texas – What was once believed to be a case of a stolen car and a kidnapping turned out to be two young granddaughters taking their grandmother's car for a joy ride, according to police.

Police said when a Conroe Police Department officer spotted the car, the 12-year-old did not pull over, starting a chase with his 7-year-old in the vehicle.

During the chase, police said the kids hit two or three vehicles before finally pulling over at Montgomery High School.

According to a witness who was driving on SH 105 with three kids in the car, their vehicle was almost hit by the kids, knocking a mirror off the car. The witness then saw the granddaughter driving on the shoulder in the wrong direction of the highway. The witness believes chase speeds reached close to 100 mph.

Police said the 12-year-old was taken into custody and the 7-year-old was picked up by the grandmother.
