EDINBURG, Texas – The Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol's Search, Trauma and Rescue team said agents saved two undocumented immigrants who had been abandoned by a smuggler.

BORSTAR said a Honduran national, whose father was unconscious, made a 911 call.

Agents responded to the immigrants who were lost in the brush, with assistance from a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine helicopter. Officials were able to locate the caller, who led them to where his father was found unresponsive.

The father was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“BORSTAR is a highly trained unit whose team members are always ready to rescue and provide medical treatment to those in need,” Chief Manuel Padilla said. “We are proud of the work they do and we will continue with rescue efforts to help immigrants who become victimized by ruthless smugglers.”
