SAN ANTONIO – A family of three was displaced from their East Side home due to an early morning fire, San Antonio firefighters said Wednesday.
The fire was reported at 5:30 a.m. in the 4800 block of Melvin Drive, not far from East Houston Street and South W.W. White Road.
Firefighters said when they arrived they saw a man trying to put the fire out with a garden hose.
The fire started in a window air conditioning unit officials said, as a mattress was pressed up against a plug.
A woman inside the home at the time of the fire woke up to crackling noises in an unoccupied bedroom, firefighters said, before alerting the rest of the family.
The family made it out safely, no injuries were reported.
A bedroom however was extremely damaged by the fire. Smoke damage also occurred throughout the house.
