Congressman Joaquin Castro to speak at Democratic National Convention

Committee announces additional speakers for convention next week

PHILADELPHIA – Congressman Joaquin Castro will speak at next week's Democratic National Convention, the committee announced Thursday.

Castro will join other elected officials at the convention being held in Philadelphia from July 25 to July 28.

"Leaders from across the country will speak about their support for (Hillary) Clinton's vision of an America that is stronger together and where the economy works for everyone, not just those at the top," the Democratic National Convention Committee said in a statement.

Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee is also expected to speak. The committee said additional speakers would be announced throughout the week.

Joaquin won't be the first Castro to speak the DNC. His brother Julian Castro, current Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, spoke in primetime during the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
