Police arrest suspect in East Side murder

Victim shot driving away from store on July 5

SAN ANTONIO – For three weeks San Antonio police had been tracking a man suspected of murder.

Now they have caught him.

Twenty year-old Dwayne Anthony Kines is now charged with the July 5 murder of Deontre Lott.

In an arrest affidavit a detective says the 21 year-old Lott and a group of friends driving three cars pulled into a convenience store at North New Braunfels Avenue and Hays Street.

The detective says Kines confronted members of the group, told them they didn't belong in the neighborhood, then as they left the parking lot he pulled a gun and started to fire.

One of those shots struck the victim.

Police say Lott's friends the drove him to Metropolitan Methodist Hospital, but medical staff there pronounced him dead.

The affidavit says descriptions from the dead man's friends, and surveillance video from the store led police to Kines.

The detective says colored tips on Kines' distinctive dreadlocks hairstyle helped police identify and track him down.

Kines was being held at the Bexar County jail on $100,000 bond.
