SAN ANTONIO – Live outside of Bexar County and feel like heading into the big city to take advantage of tax-free shopping this weekend but don’t have reliable transportation or don’t feel like dealing with the traffic?
The Alamo Area Council of Governments announced it will offer residents in outlying counties region free rides into the always popular North Star Mall in San Antonio.
The promotion is on Saturday and Sunday during which anyone can get a free round-trip between designated pickup or drop-off locations and the mall.
To take part in the promotion, interested patrons must signup by the end of business hours on Friday.
Rides from Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Jourdanton, Floresville, Hondo, Pearsall, Devine, Bandera and Boerne to North Star will be offered. There will be a set schedule and riders will be given three hours at the mall before getting picked up and given a ride back.
"We’re here to serve our region," said Kurt Scheible, ART’s Operations Manager. "We want to let folks see for themselves the great service we offer. What better way to show them than with a free roundtrip for some shopping during tax-free weekend?"
Anyone wanting a ride should call into ART’s dispatch center at 866-889-7433 and mention tax-free weekend ride. First come, first served. Riders will be asked to provide name, the number of riders in the party and contact information. Riders should mention if they're bringing child seats for infants.
"Let us do the leg work for you," Scheible said. "Just make sure you’re on our list, show up and you’re on your way. No worries about sitting in traffic behind the wheel or fighting for a parking spot."
