Impatient robber steals cash register from North Side restaurant, drops it

Man ran off empty-handed after robbing worker at gunpoint

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are searching for a robber who, most likely, isn't too happy with himself. Police said the man stole a cash register from a North Side restaurant, but then dropped it.

Officers responded to a call about the robbery around 9:15 p.m. Monday.  A worker at IHOP, in the 14200 block of San Pedro Avenue, told them a man had demanded cash at gunpoint. However, when the worker didn't move fast enough, the robber grabbed the entire cash register and ran out of the business, police said.

Investigators later found the machine on a nearby sidewalk. They said it appeared that the man dropped it there, unable to open it.

Witnesses told police they saw him run across Highway 281 and get into a waiting car.

Police have only a vague description of him, a man in his 30s who was wearing dark clothing. So far they have not located him.
