Texas Department of Transportation reminds drivers to not drink and drive

DPS sergeant says people should plan ahead

SAN ANTONIO – On Tuesday morning, many people played a virtual game showing them how alcohol significantly slows reflexes. It’s all part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s “Plan while you can” campaign.

The departments reminds drivers to plan for a sober ride this Labor Day weekend.

"The decision to drink and drive can not only affect you, but families that are out on the highways right now,” said Sgt. Orlando Moreno, with the Texas Department of Public Safety. “People who are innocent and have no part of the decision you're about to make, we ask you think about that and prepare how you're going to get home if you're going to drink."

Last year during the Labor Day weekend, there were 359 alcohol-related crashes in Texas. Twelve of the crashes were fatal and 36 resulted in serious injuries.
