Healthcare worker charged with injuring disabled patient

Zachary Marshall, 22, charged with injury to disabled person

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A staff member of the River Garden assisted living facility in New Braunfels, Texas, has been charged with assaulting a disabled resident.

Police said on Aug. 3 they were dispatched to the retirement home for reports of an assault. When officers arrived they found a 44-year-old disabled man suffering from “serious injuries.”

The man was taken by Emergency Medical Services to San Antonio Military Medical Center in San Antonio for treatment.

During the investigation police determined Zachary Marshall, 22, had assaulted the victim who has physical and mental handicaps.

Marshall was arrested on Tuesday by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force at his home. He has been charged with first-degree felony injury to a disabled person and is being held on $75,000 bond.

Marshall has also been fired from River Garden. The victim has since been released from the hospital.
