Fire Chief Charles Hood spoke Thursday about the allegations against six cadets. Those allegations: drinking in uniform on the job at a local Twin Peaks restaurant. Hood said while the decision to let those cadets go was a "difficult one," the action is final and the case is closed. || Northeast Independent School District spokeswoman Aubrey Chancellor said the new school year brings new safety measures. "This is the first year we'll be using metal detectors at all of our varsity sporting events," Chancellor said. || he price of a lifesaving EpiPen has skyrocketed, putting people with severe allergic reactions at risk. Doctors can prescribe another kind of auto-injector for epinephrine that can cost hundreds of dollars less. The epinephrine auto-injector, also called generic Adrenaclick, uses the exact same drug in the exact same dose as EpiPen, according to  Consumer Reports.

WEDNESDAY

Mayor Ivy Taylor texted her predecessor, former mayor and current Housing Secretary Julian Castro, after hearing rumors of his concerns over the tentative police contract due for a City Council vote Sept. 1. “He had made some calls to folks and quite forcefully expressed how council members should vote,” Taylor said. || A San Antonio couple was shocked to learn Animal Care Services had euthanized their missing dog despite it having a microchip. The Hilbrandt family's dog, Faith, escaped through an open gate in late July. Though she had a microchip, which ACS found, officials say its discovery wasn't properly recorded in their records, and she was put down on Aug. 17. || A spokesman for the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association has confirmed to KSAT-12 that six cadets were let go from the department after they were allegedly caught drinking while in uniform. Four cadets resigned, two others were terminated.

TUESDAY

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was in Texas today to give a speech to supporters in Austin. The town hall event will took place at 7:30 p.m. at Luedecke Arena. || A 21-year-old man was being held Tuesday afternoon in the Bexar County Jail on $500,000 bail in connection with the death of his girlfriend's 4-year-old son. Ricardo Hernandez was arrested Monday night on a charge of capital murder. || When  Kristyn Ryan decided to wash bed sheets Monday morning, she did not expect to get a load of trouble. "I heard what sounded like a tornado just whipping around this room," she said. "It sounded like the roof caving in." When she pushed open the door, she found that her 2-year old Samsung top-loader had come unmoored when the machine lurched into a violent spin cycle. Parts were strewn about, including the large plastic ring that encircles the tub.

MONDAY

Road-weary and hungry after a 2,100-mile trip from Washington state, Air Force Capt. Anthony Giebelhaus, his wife Brittany and his brother Austin checked into the Drury Inn at Interstate 10 and Loop 1604 early Sunday evening. Giebelhaus said they decided to eat before unloading and unpacking. But less than hour later, they had nothing to unload or unpack. || School is back in session and administrators and students across the state will have to follow some new rules. In effect this year is the installing of cameras in special education classrooms. This law only applies if the camera is requested. Another law, House Bill 2620, changes how school days are calculated. Instead of having 180 days of school, a school year is now calculated by minutes. This is all to make it easier to make-up bad weather days. || The flood cleanup has barely started for Floresville businessman Ray Duvall. The owner of Duvall's Carts and Barns surveyed the damage Monday morning as he drove around his property. Duvall estimates the flooding triggered by 8 to 10 inches of rain that pounded Wilson County on Saturday night into Sunday morning caused about $20,000 in damage.

Rain, rain go away

Raise your hands if you want this rain to end! Didn’t think we’d ever say that in the dead of summer, but here we are, waterlogged. Over the weekend, several places across South Texas picked up over 6 inches of rain. Folks south of San Antonio were hardest hit, with Wilson County getting the most at nearly 10 inches. Classes at Floresville Independent School District will continue as planned, but district officials said they are anticipating delays due to flooded roads.

Deputy jailed

A Bexar County Jail deputy has been arrested and charged in a domestic violence case. When deputies arrived at the home of Sgt. Wendy Yarbrough they determined she had assaulted her husband. Her arrest marks the sixth time this year a deputy has found themselves on the other side of the law.

Austin councilor drama

An Austin city councilor known for making controversial statements is being criticized for telling a group of Hispanic children to become productive adults so that they "don't have to live off others." Don Zimmerman made the comment during a budget hearing that drew students and others imploring the council to continue funding after-school programs.

"Mom, five more minutes!"

It is that time of year. Moms will be hearing kids pleading for five more minutes of sleep. By Monday morning just about every K-12 student in the San Antonio area will be back in the classroom.
