Police chase ends with gunfire on Northside

Suspects crash SUV, fire shots and run from pursuing officers

SAN ANTONIO – An early morning chase ended with a police officer under fire from suspects, and those suspects on the run from the law.

The sheriff's office says the chase began around 4:30 a.m. Sunday when a Hill Country Village officer saw the suspects outside a tool business near San Pedro and Bitters.

The S-O says he tried to confront the suspects, but they sped off in an SUV starting a chase.

The sheriff's office says that chase came to a crashing halt when the men slammed the SUV into trees, then jumped out and fired shots at the pursuing officer.

The officer wasn't hit and called for help.

The S-O says deputies, SAPD and other agencies responded to the call for assistance.

Officers from those agencies then searched for the suspects on the ground with dog teams and from the air in a helicopter, but they could not find them.

A sheriff's spokesman says one of the suspects' shots did hit the Hill Country Village officer's patrol car.

The search for those suspects continues.
