SAN ANTONIO – A memorial has been set up for a Kennedy High School student who died in a car accident Monday afternoon.
The crash happened just after 2 p.m. on Growdown Road, near South General McMullen on the Southwest Side.
Police said they found 17-year-old Luis Velasquez’s vehicle wrapped around a telephone pole.
Velasquez died at the scene. Witnesses said he was going fast when he rounded a curve and lost control. He then crashed into the pole.
Edgewood Independent School District officials confirmed that Velasquez was a senior at Kennedy.
