SAN ANTONIO – Two men were injured after a fight over a dog triggered a shooting and an ax attack early Wednesday on the city's far Northeast Side.

Police said two brothers and a man got into an argument, which escalated into a fight, around 1:15 a.m. in the 100 block of Ashland Drive.

One of the brothers pulled out a shotgun and tried to shoot the man, Javier Venegas, but wounded his brother instead, police said.

The armed man then grabbed an ax and hit Vanegas several times in the head, police said.

The man fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.

Vanegas and the wounded brother were transported to University Hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries, police said.
