Infant dies in house fire on East Side

Child was home alone

SAN ANTONIO – An infant was killed in a house fire on the city’s East Side Thursday night.

Police questioned the parents of that child in what became a crime scene, along with an arson investigation.

The emotions were high after crews found the baby dead in a back room of the East Side apartment complex.

It happened in the 600 block of Gulf. As crews were fighting the flames, a couple arrived and told firefighters their infant was inside.

The child was the only one home when the fire began.

The parents were separated and taken to Public Safety Headquarters for questioning. Arson is investigating the cause of the fire, which has been called “suspicious.”
