Body found in backyard of home hours after shooting

Incidents report in 6600 block of Monterey Street

SAN ANTONIO – A man's body was found in the backyard of a West Side home Tuesday morning, several hours after police investigated a shooting at the residence.

Police first showed up around 2 a.m. at the home, in the 6600 block of Monterey Street, for a shooting.

According to a preliminary police report, the 44-year-old victim told officers that he was shot in the buttocks while he was walking into the home by a man he didn't know. The victim was transported to University Hospital in stable condition.

Police returned to the home around 7:30 a.m. for a report of a body in the backyard of the home.

Officer Doug Greene, a police spokesman, said that family members found a man with a gunshot wound to the lower back.

"At this point we're investigating to see if this is tied to the shooting that took place at 2 a.m.; we feel very confident in that," Greene said. "The officers canvassed the area for the suspects and had Eagle fly over and did a canvass of the area and didn't find the suspects and didn't find any other victims."
