Family, friends prepare to say final goodbye to fallen SAPD detective

Private procession to take place at 10 a.m., public funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday

SAN ANTONIO – Family, friends and members of the community are all preparing to say a final goodbye to fallen San Antonio police detective Ben Marconi on Monday.

Marconi was shot and killed last Sunday in his patrol car outside of public safety headquarters.

Marconi's funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Community Bible Church near Loop 1604 and Gold Canyon Road and is open to the public.

There will be a private procession from the Porter Loring Mortuary downtown to the church prior to the service. The procession will go on Interstate 35 to Highway 281 and then onto Loop 1604.

Police said Marconi was killed writing a traffic citation when Otis McKane, 31, allegedly walked up to his window and shot him twice after getting upset about a child custody case that had nothing to do with him.

Several hundred people first paid their respects during both a viewing and rosary on Sunday night.

KSAT 12 will have a crew at the service Monday morning. You can watch the events live on KSAT.com.
