Man sleeping in car shot after hearing knock on window, police say

Victim shot once; shooter remains at large following shooting on Hwy. 90

SAN ANTONIO – A 28-year-old man who was sleeping inside his car was shot by someone who demanded the keys to his vehicle, police said.

The man was parked on the shoulder of Highway 90 between Cupples Road and General Hudnell Drive when he awoke to a knock on his car window, police said. The man rolled the window down, and that's when the would-be robber showed a gun and demanded the keys to the man's Dodge Charger. When the victim tried to roll the window up, the gunman opened fire twice, hitting the man once in the left arm, police said.

The victim drove himself to a friend's house nearby on Weir Avenue, where he called for help, police said. He was taken to University Hospital in stable condition.

The shooter ran from the scene. Police are looking for him.
