Chase involving deputies ends in crash; driver arrested

John Robert Mireles, 30, charged following crash at FM 1502, FM 78

SAN ANTONIO – A driver was arrested early Tuesday following a vehicle chase with Bexar County deputies, officials said.

The incident began around 1 a.m., when a deputy tried to stop a vehicle coming from an illegal dumping site, Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokesman James Keith said.

The vehicle, which was reported stolen, ran a red light at Martinez-Converse and FM 1516, Keith said. The driver continued on before crashing into a culvert at FM 1502 and FM 78.

Keith said that because of poor lighting, the deputy also crashed into the culvert, the center of a "Y"in the road.

The three people in the stolen vehicle were detained, Keith said. John Robert Mireles, 30, the driver of the truck, was the only one arrested. He is charged with evading motor vehicle and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The deputy was taken to Northeast Methodist Hospital with minor injuries. No one else was injured.
