SAN ANTONIO – Last week, KSAT shared the story of Rowan Windham, the courageous 10-year-old who captured the hearts of thousands as he battled a rare genetic disorder.
Early Thursday morning, Rowan lost his fight and passed away.
He had been in Seattle's Children's Hospital since August, when he got a stem cell transplant.
Since then, Rowan has been in an intensive care unit dealing with complications from his disorder, Shwachman-Diamond syndrome.
Over the past couple of years, Rowan's family has been posting his journey on social media. The "Rally for Rowan" Facebook page has close to 10,000 followers.
He even gained a new friend in actor Chris Pratt, who visited him earlier this year.
Rowan's mother, Carrie, posted on Facebook Thursday morning about Rowan's passing and thanked everyone for their prayers and support.
