Man hit, killed by vehicle while crossing West Side street

Person in other vehicle attempted CPR

SAN ANTONIO – A man in his 50s was hit and killed while crossing a West Side street Thursday night.

The incident happened just after 8 p.m. at Culebra and Bandera roads.

Police closed off the westbound lanes of Culebra from Bandera to 29th Street.

Police at the scene called it a horrible accident. They said the victim was crossing Culebra between H-E-B and Valero when he was hit by an SUV in the left-hand westbound lane.

A driver in the middle lane saw the man fall in the middle of the road, and someone in the vehicle attempted CPR, but the man didn’t survive.

The driver that hit the man did stop and didn’t realize what had happened until they pulled off the road.

The SUV driver was visibly shaken and upset, and the people in the second vehicle told police they never saw the man crossing the street.
