Fiery New Braunfels crash leaves 1 dead, 7 injured

Driver of Eclipse died trapped inside vehicle engulfed in flames

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A fiery crash in New Braunfels killed one person and sent a family of seven to area hospitals.

The crash happened just before 11 p.m. Friday off Interstate 35 near Conrads Lane.

Authorities said the driver of a Mitsubishi Eclipse was speeding down the exit ramp when he crashed into the back of a Ford Explorer.

Both vehicles ended up in a nearby field.

The Eclipse caught fire and the driver, a male, was trapped inside and died.

The seven people in the Explorer were taken to hospitals in New Braunfels, Austin and San Antonio.

The youngest passenger injured is just 4 months old.
