Charity holds toy drive after Battered Women's Shelter's toys stolen

Burglary happened on Halloween

SAN ANTONIO – A local charity that gives a safe place to women and children was robbed of its Christmas gifts, and now another charity is stepping in to help.

The burglary happened on Halloween. A police report stated that burglars took 15 boxes filled with toys and office supplies from the Battered Women’s Shelter Donation Center.

Volunteers working at the time told police they heard a loud bang and went outside to find their shed’s lock had been ripped off.

When volunteers checked it out, all of the gifts were gone. A witness said they saw two men trying to leave behind the building in a truck, hitting the dumpster on their way out.

No arrests have been made.

San Antonio charity Heart 2 Heart 4 U is holding a toy drive Friday to help replace what they can for the shelter. It will be held at VFW Post 1533, located at 107 Elmhurst, off Broadway just north of Mulberry.

The toy drive will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The charity asks that gifts be wrapped beforehand and labeled for boy or girl with an age.
