Arrest made in city's first homicide of 2017

Daniel Reyes charged with murder; man's body found in West Side motel room

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police arrested a man in connection with the city's first homicide of the new year.

According to a police report, Daniel Reyes, 31, is charged with murder after an officer found a man's body around 8:40 a.m. Sunday in a motel room in the 400 block of Enrique M. Barrera Parkway.

An officer who was patrolling several motel parking lots looking for stolen vehicles saw a disturbance between Reyes and the victim, the report said. Police said, the officer detained Reyes and discovered the victim's body.

The victim is in his late 30s and died of blunt force trauma to the head and lacerations to the neck, police said. His name has not been released.

Reyes told the officer he got into a fight with the victim while defending a woman, the report said.

The suspect is being held in the Bexar County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
