Fire causes heavy damage to North Side home

Homeowners credit firefighters for saving pets, property

SAN ANTONIO – A North Side couple credits San Antonio firefighters for saving their pets and some of their property, all in the middle of an intense firefight.

Their home, in the 19900 block of Encino Grove, however, sustained heavy damage as a result of the fire which broke out after 1:00 a.m. Thursday.

The homeowners told KSAT 12 News that they woke up due to the smoke and escaped the burning home on their own. They said firefighters helped to rescue their pets, which include dogs, cats and a parrot.

The couple also credited firefighters for saving some of their property. They said firefighters took time to remove pictures from their walls and others items from harm's way.

The fire left the home with visible damage to its roof. It also gutted about three quarters of the home's interior, according to the homeowners.

Fire investigators did not reveal the cause of the fire right away. The couple, however, suspects it started in the attic, possibly in an air conditioning unit.
