Repeat sex offender committed to continued supervision after release from prison

Richard Paul Barnes set to be released Feb. 12, 2018

SAN ANTONIO – A repeat sex offender has been committed to continued supervision once he’s released from prison.

A jury unanimously found 66-year-old Richard Paul Barnes to be a sexually violent predator. As a result, a judge ordered he be civilly committed for further supervision and treatment.

Barnes will have to undergo psychiatric treatment, submit to GPS tracking and if necessary, live in supervised housing.

Barnes was convicted in 1997 of aggravated sexual assault of a child. In 1998, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He’s set to be released Feb. 12, 2018.
