A deputy was able to identify the driver as the wanted person. The person in the vehicle initially pulled over, but then drove away as the deputy approached.

The driver led a chase for several miles. On Interstate 35, near Shepherd Road, the driver bailed out and fled on foot.

“The K-9 unit is out here scouring the area, SAPD's Eagle Unit is out here scouring the area. Whether we find him or not, we know who he is, so certainly additional charges are going to apply,” Sheriff Javier Salazar said.

Salazar said the suspect was wanted for a misdemeanor assault offense and a property crime. Now he’ll also be facing a felony evading charge.
