Grass fire scorches 100 acres in SE Bexar County, officials say

300 large bales of hay catch fire near St. Hedwig

ST. HEDWIG, Texas – A grass fire burned about 100 acres of land Tuesday afternoon in southeast Bexar County, officials said.

County spokeswoman Monica Ramos said the fire started when some large bales of hay caught fire near East Gable and Mergle roads, between Interstate 10 East and Highway 87, past Loop 1604 near St. Hedwig.

 

About 300 bales of hay eventually burned, Ramos said.

 

No injuries were reported and no evaucations were ordered, Ramos said.

The county sent in additional brush trucks to help fight the fire, she said.
