Baby boar chased by dog, rescued on city's West Side

ACS says pig only months old, six inches long

SAN ANTONIO – A baby boar is safe after being chased by a dog this afternoon, thanks to a good Samaritan who rescued the boar on the city’s Far West Side.

A man saw the baby pig being chased in a neighborhood off Marbach Road and Loop 410. He then rescued the pig and called Animal Care Services for help.

ACS said the pig was only a few months old and about 6 inches long. It does not know if the baby was lost, abandoned or orphaned.

“It is rare. Most of the time they stay with their mother,” said Joel Skidmore, an ACS supervisor. “Luckily for him, a citizen intervened and called us and now he’s going to a place where he’s going to be safe.”

The baby pig is going to live at Wildlife Rescue. ACS said pigs are not allowed in the city limits, and you can get a citation if you are caught with one.
