Investigators focus on expensive shoes in shooting of father, son

Jordan sneakers found at scene on Oaklawn Drive considered evidence

SAN ANTONIO – Investigators appear to be focusing on some expensive Jordan sneakers as evidence in connection with the shootings of a father and son Tuesday night on the city's Northwest Side.

Russell Cannon Sr., 54, and Russell Cannon Jr., 24, were shot inside their second floor apartment shortly before 9:30 p.m. in the 7100 block of Oaklawn Drive, police said. The shooting appeared to be related to a robbery by a group of people, police said.

Russell Cannon Jr. suffered a wound in the head, police said. His father suffered a non-life-threatening wound to his upper body.

According to a preliminary police report, there was a third person in the apartment who witnessed the shooting. The report said that the witness ran from the scene, but was found by police later in another part of the city.

It wasn't immediately clear what was stolen during the robbery.

Detectives at the scene appeared to turn some of their attention to a basketball-type shoe left on the ground near the apartment building.

Police were called back Wednesday morning to retrieve another shoe -- a Jordan brand sneaker -- that was found in a nearby street.

An officer said it appeared that the second shoe appeared to be evidence in the case. The officer said that someone may have accidentally dropped the shoe.

On a table outside the victims' apartment was an empty box, also bearing the Nike Jordan logo.

Police could not immediately confirm whether the shoes may have been what the robbers were targeting.
