Police: Erica Espinoza 'not intended target' of shooting

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police said the gunman in a drive-by shooting aimed at the wrong house and killed an innocent victim. That gunman still has not been charged in the 1992 death.

On July 15 that year, police said Erica Espinoza was standing at the front door of her home on the 5000 block of Rita Lane, when a car drove by and someone started shooting.

Espinoza was killed. Police said a second person was hurt but survived.

"Neither (Espinoza) nor her home were the intended targets of the drive-by," police said. "The intended target was a neighbor."

Police said the driver of the car was arrested and convicted of murder.

"However, there was not enough information to prosecute the actual shooter in this case, and police are still seeking information on (him)," police said.

SAPD's Cold Case Squad is still investigating the crime. If you have any information, call 210-207-7635.
