7 hospitalized after major crash on Loop 410 involving semitruck

SAN ANTONIO – A major crash on the city’s Southeast Side sent seven people to the hospital Friday night.

The crash involving a semitruck and three other vehicles happened on Loop 410 South between W.W. White Road and Interstate 37.

Some were sent to San Antonio Military Medical Center and others were rushed to University Hospital.

Police said the semitruck went through the grassy median and into oncoming traffic on Loop 410 South, hitting two vehicles. Another car then slammed into the semitruck. Crews had to use the Jaws of Life to rescue the two people in the vehicle.

A helicopter took one person to the hospital in serious condition. The other six people were taken by ambulance. The driver of the semitruck is OK.

Traffic was backed up since before 7 p.m. Loop 410 South was blocked off at W.W. White Road and the access road was closed off as well. Police said it’s going to take until 11 p.m. to clear the scene.

Police couldn’t give an exact condition for the six people taken by ambulance but did say they’re expected to be OK.
