SAN ANTONIO – A big fire on the city’s East Side destroyed a commercial building Tuesday afternoon.
San Antonio fire crews were still on the scene about 5:30 p.m. putting out hot spots, making sure the fire didn’t flare back up.
Crews were called to the location along Roland Road a little after 1 p.m. Firefighters said the people inside had smelled smoke.
Heavy fire and smoke came from the building as the fire grew, putting firefighters in a defensive position.
Smoke could be seen from miles away. There were at least 15 units at the scene.
Issued with access to water hampered the fire crews' efforts to get the fire under control.
No injuries were reported. The building appeared to be a total loss.
