PHARR, Texas – South Texas Border Patrol agents weren’t fooled by smugglers’ latest attempts to get marijuana into Texas from Mexico.

Officers at a border crossing seized 2,000 pounds of pot found inside thousands of green lime-shaped bundles hidden in a load of real produce.

Authorities said the fake fruit was flagged for a closer inspection on Jan. 30 at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility. Nearly 35,000 packages of marijuana made to look like limes were confiscated.

The street value of the seizure totaled to almost $800,000.
