Vacant home destroyed after fire near downtown

4 homeless youngsters were staying in home

SAN ANTONIO – An abandoned home near downtown is a total loss after it caught fire Wednesday night.

The fire happened on Kingsbury Street near North Flores Street. Crews said the home also caught fire just a few days ago.

The fire captain at the scene said the fire was suspicious. Crews were able to knock out the fire in about 10 minutes.

No injuries were reported. Four homeless youngsters were staying in the vacant home. They said they had permission from the homeowner to stay there.

The youths said all their belongings were destroyed in the fire. The damage to the home is about $50,000.

Firefighters found a dog inside which had died in the fire.

The arson team is investigating. The captain said no one is expected to be charged.
