Reagan HS grad, member of Fightin' Texas Aggie Band killed in crash

Alexander Jones, 20, killed over weekend

SAN ANTONIO – Two different communities with a common bond, mourning after the death of a classmate.

Alexander Jones, 20, was a graduate of Reagan High School on San Antonio’s North Side and an active member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band in College Station.

Dan Morrison, the band director at Reagan, and his former student were close. They even played the same instrument: trumpet.

"I would say that Alex has probably left the biggest impression on this program out of any student that I've taught, and I've taught some incredible students," Morrison said.

A member of the Corp of Cadets, the 2014 Reagan graduate died over the weekend in a car crash outside Bryan.

"Still don't even know, I don't know how to process it," Morrison said.

Now seniors at the high school who members of the Reagan band are recalling the impact Jones had on them as freshmen.

Jones flourished at Reagan, where he was first chair for three straight years. He took those leadership skills to college, where he became the Aggies' combined band commander.

"I've never seen a teenager have those characteristics at such a high level, like he did," Morrison said.

Though gone, Morrison said Jones will never be forgotten.
