Lawmakers file bill to keep unincorporated parts of Bexar County clean

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – Local lawmakers are partnering together to help keep unincorporated parts of Bexar County clean.

State Sen. Jose Menendez, Rep. Barbara Gervin-Hawkins and Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert on Friday unveiled their legislative solution to what they call a big problem. They filed a bill that would give the commissioners court the authority to clean up residents’ trash in those unincorporated areas.

The lawmakers said the northeast part of the county has been plagued by a nonexistent infrastructure for waste services.

“It’s a big problem. But even if it was a small problem, if it affects children in San Antonio, it’s enough of a problem. We need to make sure it never happens again,” Menedez said.

Menendez said they hope to pass the law before the legislative session ends in May.
