Supplies donated to Aurora Apartments residents displaced by bed bugs

More than 100 seniors were forced from homes, officials say

SAN ANTONIO – The WellMed Charitable Foundation said it has reached out to provide bath towels and wash cloths to elderly residents after more than 100 seniors living in the Aurora Apartments were forced from their homes this week due to a bed bug infestation.

The nonprofit is also asking more than 2,000 WellMed employees in the San Antonio area for donations of new bed sheets (twin size), new comforters (twin size) and new blankets (any size), foundation officials said.

Anyone who wishes to donate the items may drop off supplies during regular business hours at any San Antonio-area WellMed clinic all next week. Officials said donations will also be accepted at WellMed's corporate headquarters at 8637 Fredericksburg Road, Ste. 100.

Many seniors had to leave behind personal belongings affected by the infestation of bed bugs and cockroaches, foundation officials said.

After speaking to property owners, who committed to purchasing new mattresses for every resident, foundation officials pledged to help out with the most immediate needs of bath towels and wash cloths.

Officials said WellMed is the philanthropic partner of the WellMed Charitable Foundation.
