SAN ANTONIO – Two San Antonio teachers were named finalists Monday for the 2017 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards, the largest monetary awards program for educators in Texas. The awards recognize some of the best teachers in the state.
H-E-B representatives awarded Georgette Carrasco, from Kay Franklin Elementary in Northside ISD, and Michael Richard, from Virginia Allred Stacey Jr/Sr High School. They were each presented with a $1,000 check for themselves and a $1,000 check for their schools.
H-E-B said five more San Antonio-area finalists will be announced later this week.
All of the finalists are invited to compete on a statewide level for cash prizes, totaling $430,000, in Austin on May 6-7. Six teachers and two principals will be awarded grand prizes.
