Suspect who led police on chase charged with evading arrest

Affidavit: Shaelon Dawnee Mitchell, 22, nearly ran over an officer

SAN ANTONIO – Shaelon Dawnee Mitchell, 22, is accused of leading San Antonio police on a chase and nearly running over an officer, an arrest warrant affidavit says.

Police said last week the officer tried to pull Mitchell over for speeding on Interstate 35 near Thousand Oaks.

The affidavit said that Mitchell did originally stop and that's when the officer ran his information learning that Mitchell was wanted on a felony warrant out of California.

As the officer then tried to open Mitchell's car door Mitchell drove off, nearly running over the officer's foot, the affidavit said.

The affidavit said officers chased Mitchell but were eventually called off. Mitchell was apprehended sometime later, the affidavit said.

Mitchell is charged with evading arrest among others.
