Threat hits home

An officer armed with his sidearm, bulletproof vest and a semi-automatic rifle stood outside the Public Safety Headquarters Sunday, just hours after a gunman launched a volley of bullets at the building. It was a story we broke on KSAT.com just after 10 p.m. Saturday. Chief William McManus said police found several shell casings in an alley near the old Public Safety Headquarters and a restaurant. Luckily, no one was injured.

Honoring our officers

President Barack Obama will visit Dallas Tuesday in a show of support for police officers in the city. Meanwhile, the outpouring of support for police officers in Dallas has only continued to grow, as evidenced by the expanding monument outside the department’s headquarters. We also learned the suspect in the deadly attack taunted authorities during two hours of negotiations, laughing at them, singing and at one point asking how many officers he had shot. Our own Adrian Garcia has been the only digital journalist from the Alamo City in Dallas filing stories exclusively for KSAT.com.

Accused murderer kills himself

One of the men arrested in the shooting death of 7-year-old Iris Rodriguez was found dead over the weekend. The Sheriff’s Office said Jonathan Campos hanged himself. Jail guards found the 22-year-old inmate in his cell near death just before 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Campos and three other men were arrested last month after Iris was shot and killed walking with her mother on the city’s West Side.

What’s another million?

One of the first Toyota Tundras to roll off the assembly line in San Antonio back in 2007 has returned to its roots with a million more miles on it. Victor Sheppard bought one of the first Tundras built in the Alamo City nine years ago. When he passed the 1 million mile mark, the automaker offered to swap out his old truck for a new one.
