Man charged after discovery of stolen checks, credit cards

SAN ANTONIO – A 34-year-old man is facing charges in connection with the discovery of dozens of stolen documents in a stolen car, including checks, credit cards and identification cards, an arrest warrant affidavit said.

Eric Soto was the passenger in a car that police had identified as stolen before they stopped it Feb. 22 in the 600 block of Freiling, the affidavit said.

Police said they found more than 50 items in the car, including credit cards, checks and IDs with other people's names on them, the affidavit said.

Officers detained the driver and Soto. During questioning, Soto admitted that he was in possession of the documents, the affidavit said.

Investigators later contacted the owners of the items. None of them had given Soto authorization to possess their property, the affidavit said.

Soto was taken into custody on unrelated warrants.  He was charged Tuesday in connection with the identity theft.

The affidavit said the driver of the car was also was questioned and detained.
