BCSO motorcycle deputy hit by SUV, critically injured

Driver questioned in crash on Highway 281 at Mission Grande

SAN ANTONIO – A Bexar County Sheriff's Office deputy on motorcycle patrol was critically injured Thursday morning while conducting radar surveillance, Sheriff Javier Salazar said.

The deputy, a 27-year veteran of the force, suffered extensive injuries to one of his legs, Salazar said.

The 56-year-old deputy was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he will undergo surgery, Salazar said. The deputy is expected to survive, Salazar said.

The driver of the SUV was headed north on Highway 281 around 7:45 a.m. when she lost control of the vehicle and swerved into the deputy, who was in the median facing southbound on the highway at Mission Grande, Salazar said.

The driver is being questioned, Salazar said.
